HISTORY OF COSMETICS

                                           HISTORY OF COSMETICS

**Ancient Times:**
People have been using cosmetics for a really long time, even way back in ancient civilizations. In places like Egypt, around 3000 BCE, both men and women used makeup. They made cosmetics from things like crushed minerals and berries.

**Greece and Rome:**
In ancient Greece and Rome, people also loved cosmetics. They used powders, creams, and even painted their faces. It wasn't just about looking good; they believed makeup could protect their skin from the sun.

**Middle Ages:**
During the Middle Ages in Europe, things changed a bit. Many people associated makeup with negative things, like witches or actors. But, in some places, noblewomen still used cosmetics, and in Asia, things were different. In China and Japan, for example, makeup was a big part of traditional beauty.

**Renaissance:**
In the Renaissance period (around the 14th to 17th centuries), makeup came back into fashion in Europe. Women used white lead and mercury for a pale complexion, which we now know is not a good idea because these substances are harmful.

**18th and 19th Centuries:**
In the 1700s and 1800s, makeup became really popular in Europe again. People used things like beeswax and natural oils. However, makeup wasn't always seen as respectable, and some thought only "loose" or lower-class women used it.

**Early 20th Century:**
In the early 1900s, makeup started to become more mainstream. Hollywood played a big role – movie stars popularized certain looks. Max Factor, a famous makeup artist, even started selling his cosmetics to the public.

**Mid-20th Century:**
In the 1950s, makeup became even more widespread. Women were inspired by beauty icons like Marilyn Monroe. Brands like Revlon and Maybelline started producing cosmetics for everyday use.

**Late 20th Century to Present:**
In recent decades, makeup has become a huge industry. There are countless products for all kinds of looks. The focus has shifted towards skincare too, with an emphasis on healthy and natural-looking skin.

**Conclusion:**
Throughout history, people from different cultures and time periods have used cosmetics for various reasons – from cultural traditions to personal expression. Today, makeup is a form of self-expression for many, and the beauty industry continues to evolve with new trends and products.
